200-300 Girls and Young Women?

One of our first partnerships is with an organization called Not For Sale. Through this partnership, our pledge is to raise $25,000 for the purposes of building a 'Border Outpost' which includes safe houses, monitoring programs, and other support services for girls in danger of being trafficked on the Nepal-India border.

There are an alarming number of Nepalese children and young women being trafficked for commercial sexual exploitation every day into India's brothels. The Not for Sale team has created 8 transit homes in the Nepal-India border towns to confront this tremendous issue. They have established border surveillance team - comprised mostly of former trafficking victims themselves - that survey the transit buses with local police to help identify criminals smuggling victims. Last year alone, their teams rescued almost 2000 girls from the sex trade!

We recently had the privilege of sitting down with David Batsone - founder and President of CEO in our cavernous and spacious office building (sarcasm) in Seattle and had a great and compelling interview. Do yourself a favor and watch this!

Our favorite part of the interview and this partnership: By funding and creating this border outpost, we'll be able to help anywhere from 200-300 girls and young women from the sex trade and give them the possibility of earning their own day's wages and lives of dignity.

One of the compelling aspects of ODW is that you can choose where to invest your donation and 100% (minus transaction costs) go to the project you designate.

Calculate, Donate to this Project, and Spread the Movement.

* Poonam, pictured above, was tricked and sold into a brothel in India when she was only 14. Today she is back in Nepal, where she has received help from our project. Poonam now works as a border guard at one of the Outposts, watching for men who try to smuggle young girls into India.

The traffic only moves in one direction - out of Nepal and into India. The best defense is at the borders and the best people to catch the traffickers are the survivors who have been rescued and rehabilitated!
They are strong, amazing, and courageous women who are saving children and adults daily from being trafficked. Thank you NFS and ODW for supporting their efforts. ~Carol

Traficking is such a horrible exploitation of innocent women and children. I really hope, you succeed with your goal and that we can stop this dirty business all over the world. It is a fantastic thing you are doing. Lets unite all together.

Thanks for your thoughts Carol & Ann-Mari. I'm still blown away at the impact we can have on the lives of almost 300 young Nepalese girls by creating this Border Outpost.
