Creative Compassion

We have been so encouraged and inspired by the support shown by the One Day’s Wages community for our Haiti Relief and Rebuild efforts. Many individuals and groups have come up with some creative and exciting ways to fundraise for Haiti.

Here are some examples:

Krochet Kids International // In light of the recent earthquake in Haiti, all of the staff at KKI will be personally crocheting hats and selling them for $100 each on their website.  They will then match that $100 and present $200 to ODW for each hat sold. Hats for Haiti will be available January 27, 2010, and if you are interested in purchasing a hat, please visit: http://krochetkids.org/store.php

Marvista Elementary School  // The students, parents, and staff at Marvista Elementary School (located in Normandy Park, WA) make up a community that seeks to reach out to others in need. They have all expressed their concerns and grief over the tragedy in Haiti. Together, they have set out to raise $5,000 as a school community for Haiti Relief and Rebuild efforts. Take a moment to hear from some of the students why they believe this is important.

Numerous churches have raised funds for our Haiti Fund. For example, Binnerri Church, in Richardson Texas, is an active church that is working for justice both in their own community and around the world. They have decided to partner with One Day’s Wages by setting a goal to raise $5,000 for ODW’s Haiti Relief and Rebuild efforts. Visit their ODW Community Page.

Other creative ways for compassion:

  • One member hosted a poker tournament and donated the winnings.
  • Another member hosted a dinner party and invited the guests to donate to the Haiti fund.
  • One author auctioned off her autographed books.
  • A member and his friends chipped in to to place this ad in the Seattle Times for ODW.

We are so honored by the creativity and commitment of One Day’s Wages members. If you or the organization/company/club/church that you are involved with are interested in hosting an event or drive for the Haiti Relief and Rebuild Fund, please email: kate@onedayswages.org.
