Coming Soon: ODW's First Album!
Partnerships are an important aspect of our vision including those with artists and musicians. Thus far, we're honored to have the support of conscientious artists who are donating their influence - in various ways - to our movement including OK Go, They Might Be Giants, David Bazan, Rocky Votolato, Trace Bundy, and more. And we hope to collaborate with more artists.
But today, we have some exciting news (and a contest) to announce:
The News: Our First ODW Album!
The rumors are true: One Day's Wages is releasing our first annual ODW 'Songs for a Cause' album.
21 artists came together to support ODW's movement by donating one of their tracks to our first annual ODW Compilation album (download). 100% of all proceeds go to fund grants to small organizations in the developing world. The album will be available for DOWNLOAD near the end of June. We'll soon announce the exact date of the availability, the cost, and how you can download it via our website.
The Contest: Album Cover Design
Every amazing album deserves an amazing cover.
So, we're looking for designers amongst our friends and supporters to submit an album design. While we won't be producing a physical CD this year, we'll be using the winning cover to help promote this incredible compilation.
Here are some guidelines:
- We need the design by Friday, June 4, 2010
- A cover that resonates with the vision of ODW and the theme of "Songs for a Cause."
- Creator of the winning design receives 2 free downloads, 2 t-shirts, and your work featured on our album page.
- Email us at office@onedayswages.org for more info about design specs.
Stay tuned for the more details of the drop of our first ODW 'Songs for a Cause' album...

Comments
Can we get more details on the cover design? (ie. dimensions, required elements, title of the album, and also where we can download a vector version of ODW's logo and if there's a guideline for logo usage on designs and such.) Thanks!
Great. Yet another design contest to discredit design professionals and exploit their abilities in exchange for a free download. Expected better from you guys.... tisk tisk
well, being that it's a benefit compilation, would that mean that recording artists are being discredited as well? they're a non-profit organization battling extreme global poverty, if you're a design professional that absolutely must get paid then sell your services to a business client and leave the charity to others.
Sorry this bums you out.
We don't want to discredit you or others. We just need help.
Next time, suggest you put a request out asking a designer to donate services and trust the designer to make a solid contribution you then use and credit. Nothing wrong with asking for help but opening up a "contest" where everyone else is second best is not respectful of the designers time as creative professionals.
The recording artists are donating the USE of their track, not being asked to create a new track and submit it with other recording artists with the prospect that maybe their hard work will get recognized. Very different scenario my friend.
Great concept and great cause. I hope it works and you raise a lot of much needed support, there are just better ways to go about it.
another idea... maybe ask a designer if they are willing to donate "one days time" in lieu of wages... very inline with your brand too. I would have offered our studios time if asked and sure others would have too.
This sounds like an amazing project.
I too would like some more specifics on cover design, like file format and dimensions, logo usage, where to get the logo, etc.
Great Idea and Execution with the ODW's Album Idea!!!
I do agree about the Anonymous opinions on the album cover design contest, however. His/her latter suggestion is a good one (I'm a product designer & guitarist).
Let me know if you want help with any concert promotion and production in the East Coast (NY/NJ area) in the future.
My company has produced an artist (a former praise leader at Metro Community Church in NJ - you've preached there!), and I am very interested in donating a track as well if it's NOT too late!

Please let me know!
