HEAL Africa's hospital and community development work address the root causes of illness and poverty for the people of eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. HEAL Africa is based in Goma, DRC, a region where war has claimed over 5 million lives since 1998.

ODW's partership with HEAL Africa is to raise $25,000 in order to provide 250 Fresh Start Kits for women which provides training and skills and provides equipment they need to go back to their villages and begin to support themselves. Items may include a sewing machine, a goat, or another small livestock.

THE PARTNERSHIP

One Day's Wages is excited to partner with HEAL Africa to fund 250 Fresh Start Kits for women recovering from gender-based violence in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

WHO IS HEAL AFRICA?

HEAL Africa's hospital and community development work address the root causes of illness and poverty for the people of eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. The hospital and the 28 women's houses in Maniema and North Kivu have provided a safe place for many victims of the war, and have been a motor for combating poverty and promoting community cohesion over the past 14 years.

WHY FRESH START KIT?

Fresh Start Kits provide small-business training and skills, and provides the equipment they need to go back to the village and begin to support themselves. It may be a sewing machine, or money for small trade capital, or a goat or small livestock. The woman is involved in all aspects of the choices she makes for her future.
