Jordan and Amy
Our Story
Jordan (26) and Amy (25) Stead were wed on February 20th, 2011 at an intimate gathering in Plain, WA.
In the very early planning stages of our wedding, we knew we wanted to do something very different in style and purpose. We both have committed to being generous in our marriage, and we have the desire to pick a specific community somewhere in the world to serve, build long-term relationships, and help share the Gospel of Jesus Christ for the rest of our lives. So…we thought there was no better way to start out our marriage by focusing on our commitment. Rather than holding a reception and receiving wedding gifts, we are throwing a big party and are asking you, our guests, to join us as we raise money for our favorite non-profit organization, Krochet Kids International.
We love Krochet Kid’s methodical approach to bringing families out of poverty, teaching them life skills, and giving them economical stability in three years time. Krochet Kids is pioneering a completely different and extremely effective approach to relieving poverty.
Krochet Kids International’s mission fits the mission of our marriage, and the idea of using our wedding to bring our friends together to help in something far greater than ourselves sounds like a lot of fun to both of us. So we are asking you to give to Krochet Kids as our wedding gift. Whatever you would spend on a wedding gift, please gift that to Krochet Kids through our campaign on One Day’s Wages. The money raised at our party will help provide the wages and workshop space for a group of 10 vulnerable women. The funding of this project will be the kick-start that launches their program in Peru into a sustainable cycle of employment and empowerment for many years to come. It would mean a lot to us if you helped us change the lives of the people of Lima, Peru.
Who is Krochet Kids International?
Krochet Kids intl. is a non-profit organization that exists to empower people to rise above poverty. Through an innovative program, they offer women the assets, skills, and knowledge to pull themselves out of poverty. By taking part in their rehabilitative program, women are instantly able to provide for their immediate needs, while also taking part in essential career training that will be the foundation of a successful future.
The byproduct of their programs is a collection of fashion headwear and accessories made by the Krochet Kids intl. beneficiaries. Through the sale of their products, Krochet Kids is able to sustain their programs for years to come, as they have experienced with their initial program in Northern Uganda.
Krochet Kids intl. seeks to change the world by equipping women with the necessary resources and education to provide for their own families, and by engaging their communities at home to support through the purchase of their products. In this way, they are pioneering a movement to make humanitarian aid completely and definitively obsolete.
Each product is hand-signed by the woman who made it. Even further, her bio and photo is online which allows the customer to read about the woman who personally made their hat, even send her a little thank you note.
Krochet Kids Intl. is currently employing 87 women in Uganda and as a February, their unique model of empowerment is being expanded to brand new region of the world - Lima, Peru. Learn more about Krochet Kids Intl. at www.Krochetkids.org .
