Profile
I was born and raised in Seoul, South Korea to missionary parents from the USA. When I was two, we just traveled around all over the world, not really living any one place. I then lived in Pennsylvania and Oregon for second and seventh grades, respectively. Other than that, it was ultra-urban Seoul and Seoul Foreign School for me until I moved to the cornfields (culture shock!!) of East Central Indiana for college at Taylor University. After studying Psychology, Music, and Theatre Arts, I graduated and moved just down Interstate 69 to Muncie, Indiana for a hand full of years, where, amongst other things, I got to marry the love of my life, Amanda Gonzalez Sandoz.
Amanda and I moved to Seattle, Washington in 2004, and I attended Mars Hill Graduate School for my masters in counseling psychology degree, finishing in 2008. Formerly, the Director of Child and Family Support Services at Interaction International, I developed an International Therapist Directory that lists therapists around the globe who understand the experiences of TCKs and expatriates: http://www.internationaltherapistdirectory.com, and I work as a mental health therapist in private practice: http://www.joshsandoz.com.
I enjoy a lot of different things… reading, watching films, cooking/eating foods from around the world, playing games with friends, traveling, and engaging in acts of social justice - such as what’s going on through the good folks at kiva.org http://www.kiva.org/team/third_culture_kids_everywhere and now, of course, onedayswages.org.
