Hurricane Sandy Relief in Haiti
Hurricane Sandy left huge swaths of the Eastern seaboard of America ravaged, many people lost their homes and most tragically their loved ones. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of those families that are still dealing with the aftermath. However, our mission is to alleviate extreme global poverty, so our relief efforts are not focused here in America, instead we are coming alongside our partner, Roots of Development in Haiti, where Sandy left a path of destruction, to help repair a crucial clean water facility badly damaged in the storm
Our Response to Sandy
Last year we partnered with Roots of Development to help capture and purify a water source in the community of Nan Plim. While the project that ODW helped to fund is still operable, other Roots of Development projects have not been as fortunate.
It has been over a week since Sandy passed through Haiti, and still the people in the community have no access to clean water or even water to bathe with. The only functional water facility in Gran Sous has been severely damaged and now requires repair. Community members have already been forced to gather water from a local, large ground pool. If the facility is not repaired quickly, and this continues, they could face devastating cholera outbreaks and other health issues.
We believe in long term development and value the work that Roots of Development does so we are partnering with them through a potential $4,000 matching grant to go towards the $15k needed to get the facility fully functioning.
For the next Three days (The campaign ends at 11:59pm Wednesday the 14th), ODW will match every dollar, up to $2,000, that you donate. The funds will go toward the restoration of the inoperable facilities in Gran Sous.
Your support and generosity can help prevent the outbreak of life-threatening diseases, and can help lift the spirits of those who have been so gravely affected by Hurricane Sandy.
