Equipping Farmers in Malawi

The Adventure Project

One Day’s Wages is partnering with The Adventure Project to provide 100 farmers in Malawi with the seeds, tools and training to become profitable entrepreneurs.

Why Malawi?

Malawi is currently suffering from one of the worst food crises in its history. Right now, half of the children in the country are malnourished. Many Malawians depend on agriculture as a source of income, and currently farming is mostly single-crop and rain-fed, which has led food and income insecurity. Many farmers lack the tools and seeds they need to have a profitable harvest. Instead of giving emergency food aid, we want to invest in a sustainable solution by empowering parents to become profitable farmers so they can feed their families and earn a living.

ODW + The Adventure Project

This year, celebrate Labor Day with us by helping employ a farmer in Malawi. With your support, farmers receive the tools and seeds they need to feed their family.  Our partnership with The Adventure project will empower 50 men and 50 women to participate in this program. Each farmer is predicted to earn $600 in their first year, increasing their incomes up to 10x.

Your support will provide farmers with:

  • Drought-resistant seeds
  • Fertilizer
  • Hoes and slashers
  • Rubber boots
  • Gloves

In addition, the farmers will receive in-depth training, including:

  • Financial education: How to manage their business
  • Farming education: Crop rotation and pest management
  • Mentorship-matching program: Sharing ideas and lessons learned with fellow farmers

Join us!

Join us in equipping 100 farmers with life-saving job skills so they can provide for their families. The progress bar above includes our intended match amount of $51,835.50 for a total granting goal of $103,671.

Meet Chipaza

Chipaza was struggling to keep his head above water. As a rural farmer in Malawi, he tried growing a few different crops, but had a hard time selling them in the market. He was earning only $20 per year. His family went hungry and his kids were sent home from school because he couldn’t afford uniforms.

It’s been less than a year, but Chipaza feels he has already benefitted from the farm-training program. He received seeds, tools, financial training and is promised guaranteed buyers for his first harvest.  “Now, we know we will have more skills to market. We will be benefiting economically, emotionally, and physically from this program, which gives us hope.” When asked about how he wants to help his family, he replied, “I have so many dreams. I want to build a house for my family. I want my children, all of them, to go to school. [When I was a child] I was not able to do so because of fees…When they grow up, they will not live like I have lived.” Chipaza’s income is expected to increase 3,000% this year.
