PROJECT #140

Project #140 | Health and Hygiene in Ghana

Our partnership with H2O 4 All

Sanitation and hygiene pose a severe public health concern in many parts of Ghana, particularly in rural regions. Tsopoli Village was susceptible to water borne diseases that are common throughout rural areas, such as cholera, malaria, dengue, typhoid, river blindness, bilharzia, and yellow fever. While the school in Tsopoli village had a toilet facility, the structure was cracking and unsafe to use. The building was often home to insects, bats, and other creatures, so many students and staff chose to use the local bush instead. There it was difficult to find privacy. Additionally, women and girls were at risk of violence and sexual assault because they did not have a safe bathroom. While the village had recently experienced an increase in access to safe drinking water, sanitation and hygiene remained an ongoing issue due to a lack of latrines and hand-washing facilities.

One Day’s Wages is partnered with H2O 4 ALL to build 20 latrines and 40 hand-washing stations in Tsopoli Village on the public school property. Separate latrines were built for school children and for community members to access during the day. This project enabled students to focus on their studies and empowered the whole community with increased hygiene, health, and safety.

Thank you for making this possible!

Our movement is grassroots, to us that not only means the work on the ground is led by local leaders with the support of the community, but it also means that we raise the funds for our projects through everyday donors just like you. In addition to all the donors that gave $25, $100, or $250 and the campaigners that ran a race or donated their birthday to raise funds, we also want to thank our generous business, school, and faith sponsors who believed in our work and joined the movement.

If you want to support future projects like this you can make a donation to our clean water fund.
