PROJECT #30

Project #30 | Education Program for Girls in Ghana

Our partnership with Create Change

Our partner Create Change works with high schools in the Northern Region of Ghana, and sponsors girls at each school. These girls have formed Create Change clubs at each of their schools, where the girls come together to talk about all the challenges they face, whether academic or personal. Our partnership with Create Change funded education for girls in Ghana by providing school supplies and scholarships. Girls come from a variety of backgrounds but all face the common problem of not being able to afford their educational needs, making them at high risk of dropping out.

Girls Educated

The Education Program

Every October, hundreds of students who have gained admission to high school line up outside of Create Change’s office in Ghana, in hopes of receiving support through the provision of school fees and supplies. Despite the number of girls that may be waiting, each girl is extensively interviewed to find out about her background, her academic performance, and the challenges she faces in continuing her education. It is always an emotional time as for many girls it is the first time that they have been asked to speak about their lives and the hardships they may have faced. If a student is found to be in need of support (the vast majority of applicants are), then Create Change staff will engage with the students’ parents in person or over the phone to ensure they understand the terms of sponsorship.

Thank you for making this possible!

Our movement is grassroots, to us that not only means the work on the ground is led by local leaders with the support of the community, but it also means that we raise the funds for our projects through everyday donors just like you. In addition to all the donors that gave $25, $100, or $250 and the campaigners that ran a race or donated their birthday to raise funds, we also want to thank our generous business, school, and faith sponsors who believed in our work and joined the movement.

If you want to support future projects like this you can make a donation to our girls’ empowerment fund.
