PROJECT #94

Project #94 | Food Security in Tanzania

Our partnership with Chamwino Connect

There has been a relentless drought this year that has destroyed the harvest for many families in Chamwino, Tanzania. The lack of food is nearing crisis level as families are becoming desperate to get proper nutrition, particularly for their children who are most vulnerable to malnutrition. There are approximately 200 families in Chamwino who are struggling to find food and feed their families right now. Through this partnership we provided a two month supply to fill the gap before the next harvest.

Meet Misile Mkonongo

80-year-old Misile Mkonongo loves to sit outside her house. She is a widow. Misile explains that this year’s hunger reminds her of when she was young when similar hunger occurred in the area. She witnessed the elderly in the community suffering because they had no help. Now this year’s hunger is happening when she is old and her health is failing due to the lack of nutrition she is able to receive. Usually she gets help from neighbors, but the neighbors do not have any extra resources this year. She can only hope that God will help people go through this serious situation. Through the support of One Day’s Wages and Chamwino Connect, she will receive nutritious food that will help her recover and make it through this drought until the community can continue to support her when the next harvest comes.

Thank you for making this possible!

Our movement is grassroots, to us that not only means the work on the ground is led by local leaders with the support of the community, but it also means that we raise the funds for our projects through everyday donors just like you. In addition to all the donors that gave $25, $100, or $250 and the campaigners that ran a race or donated their birthday to raise funds, we also want to thank our generous business, school, and faith sponsors who believed in our work and joined the movement.

If you want to support future projects like this you can make a donation to our global hunger fund.
